Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I use call waiting?
Important calls get through with Call Waiting!
Call Waiting alerts you with a special tone so you know there's an incoming call waiting when you're already on another call. You can put the first caller on hold and answer the second call.
To use Call Waiting:
- When you're on a call, you'll hear a special tone signaling that someone else is trying to reach you.
- To take the incoming call, press the telephone switchhook for one second. This also puts the first call on hold.
- Press the switchook again to switch between calls (Some telephones require you to use a flash button or other button, rather than the switchhook.)
- How do I use three-way calling?
Three-Way Calling lets you be in three places at one time.
Three-Way Calling connects you with two people in two different locations at the same time. Or you can put one person on hold while talking to another.
To use Three-Way Calling:
- Call the first person and put him or her on hold by pressing the switchhook for one second.
- Wait for the dial tone and then enter the telephone number of the person you want to add to the conversation. When that person answers, you can talk privately before adding the first person back into the conversation. (If the line is busy or no one answers, depress your switchhook twice to return to your first call.)
- Press the switchhook for one second to add the first person. Now all three people will be on the line at one time.
- To disconnect either call, ask one person to hang up. You can then continue the conversation with the remaining person.
- When you hang up, all callers will be disconnected.

- How do I use Caller ID?
Caller ID lets you know who's calling - before you answer the phone.
Caller ID allows the number and/or name of an incoming call to be displayed, even before you answer the phone. It allows you to screen your calls and decide if you should take the time to answer them now or later. The numbers and/or names of your incoming calls are stored - and, depending on your equipment, the date and time of the call as well. You can find out who called while you were away, and even identify callers who hang up on your answering machine without leaving a message. Special equipment is required to display the features of Caller ID. You may purchase the equipment from Pine Telephone Company or from a local retailer in your area.
To use Caller ID:
- Simply connect the special equipment to display and capture a record of incoming calls to your phone line.
- The telephone numbers and/or names of incoming calls will be displayed on your screen after the first ring.
- If you decide to take the call, simply pick up your phone and answer normally.
Note: In the event you choose to prevent your number from being provided to Caller ID subscribers, simply press *67 (touch-tone) or dial 1167 (rotary) before making a call. It is not possible to block the delivery of the telephone number when using a pay phone.
